Matt Riordan

Biography

I threw my first golf disc in 1995 in Victoria, BC. Since becoming a PDGA member in 2013, I have competed in 54 events with 10 wins. I love to see new places, and add to my list of over 150 courses played in Canada, USA, and New Zealand. My favourite courses provide a varied challenge for all levels of disc golfers and I always have an eye towards the aesthetics of the property, to create memorable moments for players.

As a Certified Event Official, I’m looking forward to hosting the 22nd Big Bear Classic in 2021, and surpassing the record number of players set in 2019. The Canmore Nordic Centre features new turf tees and DiscGolfPark baskets.

One of my goals is to bridge the expansive distances between the thriving disc golf centres in Western Canada with modern courses that can support the new or existing communities and serve as a hub for regional and provincial events.

I can help local governments and private landowners realize the value in disc golf courses as a way to manage forested land and enhance quality of life through encouraging the growth of a sustainable community in their region.

I love to be outside in the mountains, no matter the season, and to put discs in the hands of students, seniors, and other diverse communities to show the magic of creating flight.
